Nissan Altima Won T Start Just Clicks

This time i heard a rapid clicking coming from the right front fuse block (highlighted in the pic). First remove the black cable from the negative pole. It sounds like the battery needs to be replaced.

I jumped it and it ran fine. I feel like it might have something to do with that ridiculous conglomeration on the battery cable. I was able to crank the engine with the cas unplugged to prime it with oil and then start it.

Any thoughts as to the source of the problem? The green and white foam is acid. Hooked it back up later and car cranked right up.
